Biratnagar is where Nepali industry began.

The Biratnagar Jute Mill opened here in 1936. It is often called Nepal’s first factory. Since then, the Morang–Sunsari corridor has grown into one of the country’s biggest industrial belts. At its peak it had hundreds of factories making jute, textiles, plastics and steel.

But the corridor is under pressure. In September 2026, the Kathmandu Post reported that Biratnagar’s industrial engine is slowing. Demand is weak, loans are expensive, and cheaper goods are coming in from India.

When orders are harder to win, how you market a factory starts to matter a lot more.

I’m Bimal Raj Paudel, a digital marketing strategist based in Kathmandu with over ten years of experience. I lead growth and marketing at Trip Turbo. I’ll be clear from the start: I haven’t worked with a Biratnagar client yet. I work with businesses across Nepal remotely and travel when a project needs it.

Marketing for Manufacturers and Distributors

Most marketing advice is written for shops and restaurants. Factories are different.

A factory in the corridor usually sells to a few hundred buyers, not thousands of shoppers. Those buyers are wholesalers, distributors, contractors and other businesses. They compare suppliers carefully, ask for prices and want to know you can deliver on time.

So the goal isn’t likes. The goal is qualified enquiries: a buyer who needs your product and has a reason to call you.

Here’s what usually works for B2B businesses in Nepal:

  • A proper website with product details. Sizes, grades, specifications, packaging, minimum order and delivery areas. Buyers want facts, not slogans. A downloadable catalogue helps.
  • Being found on Google for what you make. When someone searches for a product plus “Nepal” or “manufacturer”, you should show up. This is SEO aimed at a small number of high-value searches.
  • A Google Business Profile for the factory. Many buyers and drivers still look up the address on Google Maps. Real photos of your plant also build trust.
  • A fast reply system. Many B2B enquiries in Nepal come through phone calls and WhatsApp. The supplier who replies with a clear price and delivery time first often wins.
  • A dealer and distributor page. If you sell through distributors, show where to buy your products in each district. It helps buyers and supports your dealers.
  • LinkedIn for the bigger deals. For industrial buyers, exporters and corporate clients, a company page and the owner’s own profile build credibility.

The New Rail Link Is a Story Worth Telling

In July 2026, the first cargo train from Kolkata reached Biratnagar. Local trade leaders say rail could cut freight costs by up to 40%. Other estimates are lower, but any saving helps.

If your factory benefits from cheaper imports of raw materials, that’s a selling point. Lower costs can mean steadier prices and more reliable supply for your buyers. Say it on your website and in your sales conversations.

The Border Works Both Ways

The Biratnagar–Jogbani integrated check post opened in January 2020. It’s the second busiest crossing between Nepal and India, after Birgunj. Jogbani is only about 6 km from the city.

For many Biratnagar businesses, the border is a challenge.

A Morang Chamber of Commerce study, reported in April 2026, found that Nepali shoppers spend at least Rs 5 crore a day in Jogbani. Cooking oil and sugar can be much cheaper across the border. Some shoppers come from as far as Itahari.

If you run a shop, you can’t always win on price. But you can win on other things:

  • Convenience. Home delivery, quick orders on WhatsApp and clear opening hours.
  • Trust. Real products, proper bills, easy returns and warranties.
  • Things the border can’t offer. Local service, after-sales support and expert advice.

Show these clearly online. A shopper deciding whether to make the trip to Jogbani should see a good reason to stay.

Hospitals and Clinics Serving Patients From India

Biratnagar is a major healthcare centre for eastern Nepal. Many patients come from the eastern hills, and many come from across the border.

One example stands out. In February 2025, eKantipur reported that around 40% of patients at Biratnagar Neuro Hospital were from India.

For hospitals like this, good digital marketing is mostly about clear information:

  • Services, departments and doctors’ schedules on a simple website.
  • A Google Business Profile with the right address, phone number and photos.
  • Information in Hindi as well as Nepali and English, if you serve patients from Bihar.
  • A clear note on payment options. Since March 2024, Indian visitors can pay by scanning Fonepay or Khalti QR codes with apps like PhonePe and BHIM.

Be careful with promotional ads. Healthcare advertising in Nepal has strict rules. I explain them in detail on my Chitwan page.

Speak Your Customers’ Language

Biratnagar is a mixed city. Census figures show Maithili is the most common mother tongue, just ahead of Nepali. Many people also speak Hindi, Urdu or Bhojpuri.

That matters for your ads. A Facebook ad in Nepali reaches one audience. The same message in Maithili or Hindi can reach another. For businesses that sell across the border, Hindi content can open up a whole new market.

Test this. Run the same offer in two languages and see which one brings more enquiries. The data will tell you more than any guess. My guide to Facebook ads targeting in Nepal shows how to set this up.

Shops, Restaurants and Services in the City

Not every Biratnagar business is a factory. The busy streets around Mahendra Chowk and Traffic Chowk are full of shops, restaurants, coaching centres and clinics.

For these businesses, the basics matter most:

  • Google Maps. Make sure your business shows up with the right name, hours, phone number and photos. Many local searches start here.
  • Reviews. Ask happy customers to leave a review and mention Biratnagar. I’ve written a guide to getting more Google reviews in Nepal.
  • Short videos. A quick clip of your shop, your food or your service often beats a polished poster.

There’s a local search problem here too. Biratnagar, Itahari and Dharan are close together, so search results can mix businesses from all three. Be very clear about where you are, so the right customers find you. My local SEO guide covers this in more detail.

What I Would Do First

If you asked me to help your Biratnagar business, I’d start with four questions:

  1. Who are your best buyers? For a factory, that might be ten distributors. For a shop, it’s your regular customers.
  2. How do they find suppliers today? Phone calls, referrals, Google or trade fairs. The answer shapes everything.
  3. What happens when someone enquires? A slow reply loses the order, no matter how good the ad was.
  4. What makes you different from the border and from bigger cities? That becomes your message.

Then I’d fix the free things first: your website, your Google profile and your reply process. Paid ads come after.

How Working Together Works

I work with Biratnagar businesses remotely, through calls, shared documents and messaging. When it’s worth it, I travel for a kickoff, a factory visit or a photo and video shoot.

You work with me directly, not a junior. If you’re comparing options, my guide on how to hire the right digital marketing consultant in Nepal shows what to check, whoever you choose.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are you based in Biratnagar?

No. I'm based in Kathmandu and I work with Biratnagar businesses remotely. I travel when a project needs it, for example for a factory visit or a content shoot. I haven't done client work in Biratnagar yet, so you won't see made-up local case studies here. What I bring is over ten years of growth and marketing experience.

Does digital marketing work for factories and B2B businesses?

Yes, but it looks different from consumer marketing. Factories don't need viral posts. They need to be easy to find when a buyer or distributor searches for a product, a website with clear specifications and contact details, and a fast way to answer enquiries. That steady, boring work wins orders.

Can Biratnagar hospitals advertise to patients from India?

Hospitals can make useful information easy to find, such as services, doctors, timings and how to reach them. But healthcare advertising in Nepal has strict rules, and doctors follow the Nepal Medical Council's code. Focus on clear information and a strong Google Business Profile rather than promotional ads, and check the rules before running any campaign.

Can Indian customers pay at my shop or hospital in Biratnagar?

Since March 2024, Indian visitors have been able to pay in Nepal by scanning Fonepay or Khalti QR codes with Indian apps like PhonePe and BHIM. If you serve Indian customers, say clearly that you accept this, both at the counter and online.

Why do my Biratnagar searches show businesses from Itahari or Dharan?

Biratnagar, Itahari and Dharan are close together, so search results can mix businesses from all three. Make your location very clear on your website and Google Business Profile, mention the area you serve, and ask customers to mention Biratnagar in their reviews.
