Say “Chitwan” to most people and they think of rhinos and jungle safaris.

Say “Bharatpur” to someone from Makwanpur or the neighbouring districts, and they’ll probably think of hospitals.

That’s the real Chitwan economy. It isn’t one thing. It’s a medical city, a tourism destination and an agricultural centre, all sharing the same district. A marketing plan that works for a Sauraha lodge will fail for a Bharatpur clinic, and neither will help a poultry supplier.

I’m Bimal Raj Paudel, a digital marketing strategist based in Kathmandu with over ten years of experience. I’ve worked with Kantipur Studio in Chitwan on their social media, paid ads and design. I also lead growth and marketing at Trip Turbo, Nepal’s #1 travel app, so tourism marketing is a big part of my daily work.

Bharatpur Is a Medical City

Around 3.7 lakh people live in Bharatpur Metropolitan City. But on any given day, the hospitals serve people from much further away.

BP Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital sees around 850 patients a day. The government-run Bharatpur Hospital handles more than 2,000 outpatient visits a day. Chitwan Medical College and the College of Medical Sciences run large teaching hospitals. Patients come from surrounding districts and even from Indian border areas.

This matters for marketing because of how those patients search. Someone travelling three hours for treatment does a lot of research first. They want to know which hospital, which department, which doctor, what the timings are and where to stay nearby. If your hospital, clinic, pharmacy or nearby hotel isn’t findable with clear information, you lose them to someone who is.

The Advertising Rules Most Agencies Ignore

Here’s something I rarely see mentioned on any Nepali marketing agency’s website. Healthcare in Nepal has real advertising rules.

The Nepal Medical Council’s Code of Ethics (2017) says:

  • Trying to attract patients, directly or indirectly, is considered unethical. That applies to individual doctors and to groups and organisations.
  • Doctors can publish their professional service information on their own practice website.
  • Doctors should not post their medical work on social media like Facebook “with an intent of procuring patients.”
  • Services should not be promoted through unsolicited calls, emails or leaflets.

In April 2025, the Ministry of Health added its own warning. It said advertisements by or for private health institutions breach existing norms. Breaking the Council’s rules can lead to a doctor being removed from the medical register. As one medical ethics official told Khabarhub: “There’s a big difference between providing information and advertising.”

So if an agency promises your clinic a Facebook campaign offering discounted procedures, be careful. It could put your doctors’ registrations at risk.

What this means in practice is that healthcare marketing in Nepal leans heavily on the things that inform:

  • A proper practice website. Departments, doctors, qualifications, registration numbers, OPD timings and how to reach you. This is explicitly allowed, and it’s what travelling patients need most.
  • Google Business Profile and Maps. Correct location, hours and phone numbers. When someone arrives in Bharatpur from another district, this is how they find your door.
  • Educational content. Explaining a condition, what to expect from a procedure, or how to prepare for a visit. This builds trust without selling.
  • Local SEO. So you show up when someone searches for a specialty in Bharatpur or Chitwan.

This is general guidance, not legal advice. If you’re a hospital or clinic, check anything you’re unsure about with the Nepal Medical Council before you publish it.

Digital Marketing for Dentists

Dental clinics need a separate note. The Council’s code is written for registered medical practitioners, and it isn’t clearly stated how far it covers dentists. So check your own position with the Nepal Medical Council.

Even if the code doesn’t bind you, its approach is still the smart one. On Facebook, dental promotions often lean on before-and-after photos and discount offers. That can bring in bargain hunters, but it rarely builds the trust that keeps patients coming back.

A better approach for a dental clinic is quieter but works longer. A clear website listing your services and dentists. A strong Google profile with genuine reviews. Useful content about dental care that people actually search for. Patients choose dentists they trust, and trust is built by being informative, not pushy.

Pharmacies, Labs and Lodges Near Hospitals

Businesses around the hospitals serve the same travelling patients and their families. Pharmacies, diagnostic labs, lodges and restaurants near the big hospitals should think of the hospital’s visitors as their audience. The simplest win is being on Google Maps with the right name, hours and phone number. Make sure you show up when someone searches the hospital’s name plus “near”.

Sauraha and Chitwan National Park

Chitwan National Park had around 2.57 lakh visitors between mid-July 2025 and mid-June 2026. About 1.54 lakh of those were domestic, 83,000 were international, and nearly 20,000 were from SAARC countries.

Those numbers hide big swings. Autumn is usually full. Festival seasons bring waves of domestic visitors. Indian arrivals have been rising in summer.

For Sauraha hotels and safari operators, that means:

  • Plan ads around the real seasons. Don’t spend the same amount every month.
  • Use different messages for different visitors. A domestic family wants a package and a good price. A foreign visitor wants a trusted guide and a safe jungle experience.
  • Work on your reviews. Visitors compare lodges carefully, and a few honest reviews with replies go a long way.

Tourism is my day job, so this is the area where I can usually help fastest.

Agriculture, Poultry and Agri-Businesses

Chitwan has long been the centre of Nepal’s poultry industry. A 2015 survey found it produced around two-thirds of the country’s eggs. That figure is old, but the industry is still a huge part of the district.

Agri-businesses usually sell to other businesses, not to the public. That makes their marketing very different from a hotel’s. It’s less about Facebook boosts and more about being easy to find, easy to trust and easy to contact.

This applies to feed suppliers, hatcheries, equipment sellers and agri-product brands. I’d usually start with three things: a clear website, a Google Business Profile, and a simple way for buyers to reach you on WhatsApp.

Colleges and Schools

Bharatpur is also home to the Agriculture and Forestry University, two medical colleges and many private schools. Education marketing is its own discipline. For schools, admission season in Nepal is short and has rules about when you can start enrolling. I cover that in detail on my Butwal page.

A Small Search Problem Worth Knowing

Search “digital marketing Bharatpur” and you’ll find plenty of results about Bharatpur in Rajasthan, India. The same thing can happen to your business.

The fix is to be very clear about where you are. Write “Bharatpur, Chitwan, Nepal” on your website. Mention local landmarks. Build a complete Google Business Profile. These small steps help Google understand which Bharatpur you mean.

How We’d Work Together

I work with Chitwan businesses remotely, the same way I worked with Kantipur Studio. Most of it happens over calls and messages. When a project needs it, I travel to Chitwan for a kickoff, a shoot or a planning session.

You work with me directly. I’ll tell you honestly what’s worth doing and what isn’t, including when the right answer is to fix your Google profile before spending anything on ads.

Frequently Asked Questions

Have you actually worked with businesses in Chitwan?

Yes. I've worked with Kantipur Studio in Chitwan on social media, paid ads and design. I'm based in Kathmandu, so most work is remote, and I travel to Chitwan when a project needs it.

Can a hospital or clinic in Nepal run Facebook ads?

Carefully. The Nepal Medical Council's code of ethics says doctors should not post on social media with the intent of attracting patients or promoting themselves. In April 2025 the Ministry of Health also warned that advertisements by or for private health institutions breach existing norms. Sharing useful health information is generally fine. Pushing people to buy a treatment is where the risk is. If you're unsure, check with the Council before you run anything.

What marketing is safe for a dental clinic in Nepal?

Focus on things that inform rather than persuade. A clear practice website with your services, doctors, registration numbers and opening hours. A complete Google Business Profile. Helpful educational content. What to avoid is fee-based promotions, before-and-after campaigns and posts designed to recruit patients on social media. It isn't clearly stated how far the Nepal Medical Council's code covers dentists, so check your own position with the Council. This is general guidance, not legal advice.

Is Sauraha tourism worth marketing to all year?

Not in the same way all year. Autumn is usually the strongest season. Domestic visitors come in big waves around festivals, and Indian visitors have been growing in summer. A good plan changes its message and budget with the season instead of running the same ads year-round.

Why does my Bharatpur business show up behind Indian websites?

Because there is a Bharatpur in Rajasthan, India, and a lot of online content is about that one. You fix this by being very clear about location: say Bharatpur, Chitwan, Nepal on your website and Google profile, use local landmarks, and build a proper Google Business Profile.
